2009 ATD Workshop Program

ATD's workshop program offers educational sessions that build on the association's commitment to the continuing success of your dealership. New for 2009, we have added a General  Business Track for Managers to our workshop program to provide you and your staff  with even more educational opportunities. In addition to Executive Track and General Business Track for Managers,  we have scheduled the highly successful, Lifeline to Profit$ workshop on Friday afternoon. Workshop sessions and topics have been updated to reflect the latest industry topics and trends.  The emphasis is on real-life examples, practical solutions, and ideas you can use. 

 

The following is a list of the workshops scheduled for 2009. Titles and topics are subject to change and/or cancellation. Information on the workshop schedule and speakers will be updated regularly on this page.

 

Lifeline to Profit$ Workshop

This highly acclaimed workshop is being offered as a tool to help you boost your dealership’s profitability. You will be using your dealership’s numbers as a reference point to locate the opportunities that actually exist now!

 

This intensive workshop will touch all departments, taking a candid look at each. You will develop action plans so that you are better prepared to guide your management team.

The trucking industry has gone through some major changes because of the regulations from the EPA. As a result, truck engines built today eliminate more than 90 percent of particulate and hydrocarbon emissions. In this workshop, panelists will discuss how manufacturers are producing these more environment friendly vehicles. You will hear about how some dealers are successfully selling fuel efficient trucks on their lots. Discover ways to tap into federal funding and other technology solutions.

 

Current Federal Excise Tax Issues and Changes

Over the course of a year many changes in either law or practice may occur that affects the responsibilities of retail dealers or IRS agents. Every effort will be made to clarify those issues or changes, in a workable and understandable manner. Estate Planning Pitfalls and Solutions

Participants will be taken through a checklist of items that are important to every dealer's estate and dealership succession plan.  Participants will learn techniques for avoiding probate, eliminating all estate taxes, and how to effectively use non-profit corporations, trusts, wills, and family limited partnerships. As well as how to utilize and integrate your estate plan with lawsuit protection and income tax reduction tools.

This workshop will teach dealers what they need to know to export their oversupply of slow-selling used trucks to other world markets. The speaker will explain how the exportation process works, highlighting customs implications and documentation needed.

 

Participants will also receive a rundown of market opportunities, as well as potential hazards and pitfalls of exporting trucks outside of the United States. Learn how exporting used trucks can effectively change your business cycle and your overall way of doing business.

One of the main rules of a successful business is that your price must be competitive. In the service business we sometimes are overpriced, or at least our customers think so. This results in many customers buying truck services at non-dealer facilities. Although overpricing is the perception in many markets, competitive surveys often reveal that dealers are actually under priced, especially in the areas of heavy repairs and hard jobs. This workshop will expose the participants to “market driven pricing techniques” and the effect on labor gross profit.

Get updated on the latest Internet marketing strategies (including social computing, blogs, interactive sites, instant messaging) that allow your dealership to take full advantage of the business opportunities the Internet has to offer. Learn how these trends will impact truck dealerships.    

 

 

Super Workshop
 

The Credit Crisis:  Implications and Opportunities for Your Business

Panelists will review the current crisis and discuss the implications and opportuntities for truck retail.  Part One of the workshop is dedicated to understanding the credit crisis.  Specificially, participants will lean about its causes and the interplay between the chanllenges in housing and truck retail.  There will also be an update on the status of the crisis, which changes on a daily basis. Part two is dedicated to managing through and capitalizing on the crisis.  Participants will hear about the implications of limited credit and corresponding business model changes required for survival.
